5 Simple Tips to Being a More Organised Mum

I have to kick this off by saying I am NOT the most organised person by any means. I am usually running late, forgetting things, live in a state of organised chaos and usually misplace things. But since becoming a Mum, I have been forced to become a more organised person and so I wanted to share my 5 tips that have helped me become more organised on a daily basis.Β

1. “Where are my keys?!”

Do you find asking yourself this question every morning as you’re rushing off for the school drop off? Well this was me most mornings which meant I was always running out of the house late as I would spend 10-15 minutes looking for the keys. One simple thing helped me with this daily issue. I went to my local Bunnings and purchased a 3M Key Rail that I was easily able to mount on my kitchen wall. Now, as soon as I get home and put my bags down, I grab the keys in my hand and quickly hang them up on the key rail. When I’m leaving the house in the mornings, I grab my keys and off I go! No more time wasted looking for them

2. Pack the night before

I find by packing bags and lunches the night before, I not only save time from running around doing it the next day but I also don’t forget things anymore! Usually when I am in a rush packing things, I always leave something behind which I probably need for the day and I have to turn the car around and come back home to pick up. By packing the nappy bag and kids’ school bag the night before, I can ensure the kids and I have everything we need and I’m not running around like a headless chicken in the morning trying to remember what I need to pack. This also goes for the kids lunches. Doing it the night before means all you have to do in the morning is pop the packed lunches in the bag and off you go!

3. Preplan the kids outfits

If you have kids that insist on choosing their outfits, then get them to choose their outfits the night before. I usually check the weather app on my iPhone the night before to see what the weather will be like and then I pull out three outfit choices for my daughter to choose from. This then saves time in the morning of any complaints and arguments around what she is wearing! It makes getting ready much easier when outfits have been laid out. You’re not having to rummage around the wardrobe trying to figure out what to put on them.

4. Use a family calendar

When you have kids, things start getting busier during the week and on the weekends. Swimming classes, birthdays, soccer practice as well as your own appointments/engagements. A family calendar is the perfect way for you to see what everyone is doing during the week and now hubby can’t say you didn’t tell them about a certain engagement on the weekend. Pop it up on the calendar and you will feel more organised about your family life.

5. The Hug App

Following on from tip number 4, as you have various activities going on for each child, comes the need for organising transport whether it’s who’s picking up the kids from school, to who is taking the kids to swimming/soccer/dance lessons, to who is taking the kids to their doctor’s appointment.Β The Hug App is the perfect way to organise care and/or transport for your kids within your family and friends. Currently Mia has her grandparents who help transport and care for Mia when we can’t or have work commitments. Sometimes it can get messy on who is doing what on which day. The Hug App lets everyone know who is responsible for driving or taking care of Mia on what day and will also let them know where they need to go to and what time. My parents have found the app very helpful. They know what they need to do when. Previously it was a lot of reminding on my behalf to ensure they knew what was going on. Now I have peace of mind on Mia’s transport and care being organised.

  1. These are great tips! We already have 1 & 5 in place (providing my wife hands her keys up!) 2 & 3 I must try harder on and I really hope the big app becomes available in the UK as I am for ever on the phone reminding and checking who is collecting Lauren!

Great blog and very helpful! Being a parent gets harder I’m sure as we all seem to have less time!

    1. We are always constantly juggling our lives plus our children’s so it’s great to have tools and handy apps to help us along the way
