5 Tips for Weaning Your Baby

Brought to you by Organix

My little one (Mia) is 2 years old, but I remember like it was yesterday when we began weaning her. Mia was 4 months old when we began giving her her food as per our Pediatrician’s recommendation as she suffered from reflux from a young age. Here are my 5 top tips on getting you and your little one ready for weaning.

1. Prepare for the mess

You have to expect mess when a baby is trying to work out how to get food in their mouth. It’s inevitable. And to be honest, even now that Mia is 2, we still get messy at times. My suggestion is to buy the below:

  • Big plastic bib. We buy ours from Big W and it’s the best one.
  • Cheap wipes. We buy Dymples wipes from Big W and use them to clean up Mia’s face and hands after a messy eating session.
  • Splash mat. If you have carpet, then a splash mat is a godsend. It’s basically a big sturdy plastic mat you place under the high chair or wherever your child eats. Even when food items drop or splatter on the ground, you can easily wipe it up.

2. Make it interesting

Colours, textures and shapes fascinate babies and toddlers. If you can make their plate look interesting and fun, then they are more likely to pick up and try their food. I always tried to include a mix of vegetables and fruits that showcase a variety of colours. The new Organix baby food range is perfect when it comes to introducing textures. The Organix Fruit Pot with Apple and Raspberry contain pieces of apple in them, it contains texture that babies and toddlers love.

3. Eat it

If you are going to introduce foods to your baby, eat it. Sometimes babies can be cautious about new foods, but if they see you eating it, then they are more likely to want to try it. Also, I suggest when you buy baby foods, to try it. If you can eat it, then they will. There are some baby foods out there, that I can’t swallow and when I have tried to give it to Mia, she would just spit it out. The Organix Fruit Pots I have personally tried and they are yummy. I also love those apple pieces in the fruit pots.

4. No artificial sugar

As a family, we made a decision early on that we were not going to introduce any artificial sugars to Mia until she was older. Even at 2, she is only really exposed to sugars when she goes to birthday parties. We don’t buy chocolates or lollies to keep in the house. The Organix range of baby foods comes with the Organix No Junk Promise. It’s a stamp of reassurance that they are made with the best organic ingredients and contain nothing unnecessary, so your little one gets great tasting snacks without the junk.

5. Make it easy

Your little bub is still trying to work out hand/eye coordination, so if you are giving them finger foods, make sure it is easy for them to hold and chew on. We love the Organix Baby Biscuits because it’s the first ring shaped biscuits for babies. It means it’s easier for them to hold and they will love the shape.

Review Organix Baby Food Range

organix-baby-biscuits-tips-for-weaning We have tried the Organix fruit pots in mashed apple and mango as well as apple and raspberry with apple pieces. I loved the apple and mango puree as my favourite fruit is mango. The taste is spot on and it is mashed up enough for babies just starting to eat. Mia’s favourite pot was apple and raspberry with her favourite fruit being anything berry (strawberry, blueberry and raspberry). I think she also liked this pot more because it had apple pieces in them and she is used to biting and chewing these days so she would have enjoyed biting into those pieces (even though they are super soft). One thing that Mia did to increase the texture is that she placed the biscuits inside the fruit pots and ate the biscuits saturated with the fruit flavours. She loved loved that!

The Organix Baby Biscuits are fantastic for babies and toddlers. The ring shape totally entertained Mia and she loves putting them on her fingers and breaking them in two. They come in banana, strawberry and vanilla flavour. My favorite was the banana flavour. Tasty and super easy to chew on. Mia loves the strawberry flavoured biscuits. Even more so when she dips them into the fruit pot.

Mia eats the biscuits and fruit pots as a snack in between meals and mainly in the afternoon between lunch and dinner.

Why we love it

  • No junk promise
  • 100% organic fruits used
  • Easy to take out and about
  • Tasty
