I was absolutely intrigued when I received an invitation to attend the launch of the Oli6 Dairy Goat Formula Range. My perception of goat’s milk formula has always been it was for children who had allergies or who were lactose intolerant. In fact, as I learnt, goat’s milk is beneficial for all children.
On my way I went, to attend the launch where expert speakers included Melanie McGrice (Accredited Practicing Dietitian) and Professor Harsharn Gill (Head of Food Science & Nutrition Discipline at RMIT).
Whilst breast is best, there are many situations in which formula will need to be introduced. For me personally, I was always adamant that I would only breastfeed when I had my daughter. Three days into having my daughter, she was screaming after every feed and not settling. The midwives said to me “she is not getting enough milk from you.” The stress of a newborn and on top of that, not being able to provide her enough milk was such an overwhelming sensation where I felt like I failed my daughter – and so we had to introduce formula. Once she had a top up of formula, she finally stopped crying and was able to go to sleep in peace. I never looked back.
As a practicing dietician, Melanie spoke about the distress digestive problems in babies not only affect the baby by way of crying and not sleeping, but the ongoing effect on the mother, who also goes through the stress of watching her baby cry and not being able to sleep if the baby doesn’t sleep. She went onto explain how goat’s milk contains natural vitamins and minerals that help a baby’s gut development and can alleviate many of these digestive issues.
Next up was Professor Gill who went into detail on the specific nutritional benefits of goat’s milk over cow’s milk. What surprised me the most as he rattled off the overwhelming benefits of goat’s milk is why did we not know this before?
Did you know that goat’s milk is in fact a closer replica to breast milk than cow’s milk?
Oligos – prebiotic oligos may assist in digestion, gut health and immunity.
Vitamin A – for the development of vision and sight
Magnesium – assists in development and growth
It is also great to know that the Oli6 range is made in Australia and meets all the strict regulatory guidelines.
I walked away from the launch enlightened and feeling better informed when it comes to formula options. Now knowing that goat’s milk is naturally better for my child, I look forward to trialing Oli6 on Mia. I only wish they were around when my daughter was first born. It may have helped in alleviating a lot of the stress that we went through due to her early digestive issues.
There is also a current promotion where you can get a $10 cashback on purchasing an Oli6 tub! We are all about sharing bargains and great deals with our readers at Child Blogger Inc.
