The IKEA + you campaign has returned for the second year running with IKEA interior designers across the nation co-creating the bedroom of their dreams for 10 lucky Australians.
The IKEA + you initiative was born from the desire to inspire Australians to find happiness in their homes by living a better everyday life. The IKEA Interior Design team from all 10 IKEA stores used their understanding of Australian life at home to makeover 10 bedrooms, solving the everyday frustrations faced by families to create a retreat and bedroom sanctuary.
IKEA interior designers found that storage and decluttering was in fact the most common frustration in the bedroom. This was followed by the lack of personalisation and the desire for emotional wellbeing within the “forgotten” room of the house. The 10 bedrooms of the 10 Australians will be replicated in each IKEA store around the country, highlighting the solutions and creative ideas that the interior designers used in the space.
From this, customers can learn how to solve the frustrations that are truly relevant in their own homes. Tiffany Buckins, Head of Interior Design for IKEA Australia said, “At IKEA, we know that creating the perfect bedroom set-up has a huge impact on people’s lives. Our ambition is to show the many Australians how easy and affordable it can be to create a space to unwind, relax and recharge for the next day”
IKEA + you is all about working with real Australians to help them ignite creativity and to not only create a beautiful space, but also something that is practical and functional. IKEA visits approximately 500 homes across Australia every year, interviewing families to understand the real frustrations and aspirations people face in their homes. These insights are then used by the interior designers in stores to create the solutions displayed in the IKEA showrooms – so they truly reflect the local living situation and show how to solve common problems faced in the homes of the many.
Each of the showrooms in stores are completely unique and reflect the local community. IKEA stores closer to the city focus on small space and rental living, while our stores in the suburbs feature open plan living with families in focus. From the in home visits IKEA knows that some of the biggest frustrations faced by Australians include; working with an open plan layout, creating a coordinated look, personalisation and solving storage and clutter frustrations.
The IKEA Life at Home Report revealed 68% of Australians feel their bedroom is where they are able to have private moments for themselves. The report also found that just over 1 in 2 Australians feel that something could be better or improved in their bedroom. Tiffany Buckins continues, “It was incredible to be able to work with real Australians and put our skills to the test to tackle some of the biggest and most common problems faced by our families across the nation.” “I hope the solutions we have created inspire all Australians to take the plunge and bring joy back into their bedroom space. We want everyone to be able to recognise the frustrations they have within their space, and embrace these home furnishing solutions to create their very own oasis of calm in the bedroom.”
