In just a couple of months, we will be moving into our very first home that we have purchased. As much as I can’t wait to move into our new place and go shopping for new furniture and homewares, the reality is that after moving costs, cleaning costs and handing over our life savings to purchase our place, I won’t have the money to spend on whatever I want to. Here are some tips to help your new home (and mine!) look amazing on a shoestring budget.
1. Set Up Some Mood Lighting
You would be amazed at how much light can do to set the mood. Find some cheap lamps, and play with moving them around to see how the feel of your space changes. You can also try pointing your lamp at the wall to scatter light in a certain way or covering them with fabric to change the color of the light.
2. Go On Gumtree, and Skip the Particle Board
Those particle board bookshelves and entertainment centers you assemble yourself tend to break easily and look unsophisticated. Instead, look asites like Gumtree or your local op-shop to find a higher-quality and more durable piece that can get the job done better. Remember: you can always paint it!
3. Donโt Forget the Curtains!
Curtains instantly glam up a space, making it feel more homey and inviting. Find curtain rods at your local op-shop, and then sew a hem on lightweight blankets, sheets or other fabric to create unique window treatments.
4. Form Does Not Have to Follow Function
Any furniture piece can be an asset in the right room. Use a bedside nightstand table as a toiletry station in the bathroom, or add a chair to your kitchen to give you a place to rest as well as a bit more counter space in a pinch.
5. Frame It Up
Adding a frame to any poster or print has the effect of instantly making it look more expensive and important.
6. Have Nothing to Hide
Wire frame shelves and storage racks make your pantry visible to all, but with a little creative arranging, your groceries can look like dรฉcor!
7. Play Tricks With Mirrors
Mirrors bounce light throughout a space and create the illusion that it is bigger. If you have a tight hallway or a small room, adding a mirror can work wonders!
8. Get Help Moving the Big Stuff From Moving Services in Australia

You can get affordable help with moving services in Australia, who move your favourite furniture and belongings from A to B safely and quickly, ensuring that your new home looks fabulous on day one.
