With the current climate and the need to self-isolate, no doubt you are spending too much time at home! Between kids being home-schooled, working from home, and no social activities outside of the house, the house is bound to be in all sorts of mess. In saying that, because we are home more than ever, this is also the perfect time to work on a cleaning routine.
Here are my top tips for making sure the house is clean and tidy during isolation
1. Turn cleaning into a fun activity.
All this time at home can run its course and soon you will find yourself running out of ideas on how to keep the kids entertained. Try turning to tidy the home into a fun activity for all. For example, at the end of each day, have your kids tidy their toys but turn it into a competition with the fastest person winning! That way the kids will also be enthusiastic about the job.
2. Use External Storage
Do you ever find yourself buried in heaps of items that you just donβt need all year round? Between seasonal sports equipment such as surfboards and ski gear to items of clothing such as bulky Winter jackets, there are always too many items in the house that you just donβt need. Consider using external storage for this. This is also an excellent way of creating new space without the hassle of trying to find these items when you need them. Companies such as Hire Storage are great to use. It is a secured facility that is monitored 24/7, centrally located, and accessible 6 days a week, has the convenience to store from a few days to years, and is affordable. The removalists collect your belongings, safely store it, and will return it to you when you are ready. It makes moving and storing just that much easier and less stressful knowing you have professionals to help you out.
3. Keep all activities to one area
Between working from home and kids being home-schooled there may be a lack of space within the household for essential activities. Try to designate one area in the house such as the dining room or living room for these activities. Therefore, you can make as much of a mess as you need but it will not hinder other activities throughout the day such as meal-times.
4. Keep up routine
With life moving that little bit more slowly and no visitors to the home, it can be easy to fall into the habit of letting the house go messy. There really is nothing better than waking up to a clean house yet we often find ourselves putting off the cleaning until the next day. Each day designate some time to keep the house clean and tidy. That way, there will also be less mess to clean up each time. Another good idea is to designate one day a week where you do a deep clean of the full house. There will be too much fun to be had once isolation is over so now is the best time to combat it.
